    • NASHVILLE Blake Martinez Jersey , Tenn. (AP) The Latest on the Tennessee Titans needing to replace veteran safety Johnathan Cyprien after losing him for the season with a torn ACL (all times local):

      7 p.m.

A person with direct knowledge of the visit says veteran Eric Reid will be among the safeties working out for the Tennessee Titans in their search for a potential replacement with Johnathan Cyprien out for the season with a torn ACL.

Reid will work out for the Titans on Friday, a person familiar with Reid’s visit told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team does not announce which players it is working out.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel said earlier Thursday that the Titans have looked at Reid and were in the process of trying to bring the safety in for a visit.

Reid is one of the players who kneeled during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality. He has been out of work since playing out his contract with San Francisco. Reid, 26 Dan Fouts Jersey , started 69 of 70 games with 10 career interceptions.

AP Pro Football Writer Rob Maaddi contributed to this report.

Tennessee safety Johnathan Cyprien will miss the season with a torn left ACL, and coach Mike Vrabel says veteran Eric Reid is among the safeties the Titans want to look at as a potential replacement.

Cyprien left practice Wednesday after grabbing at his left knee. He walked to the locker room with trainers. Vrabel announced after practice Thursday that Cyprien tore his ACL.

The Titans have Kendrick Lewis and Demontre Hurst among the other options at safety on the roster.

Vrabel says the Titans are in the process of trying to bring in Reid along with other safeties for a workout.

Cyprien signed a four-year deal last season. He started 10 games after dealing with an injured hamstring last year.

The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms with third-round draft pick Deadrin Senat, a defensive tackle from South Florida.

The deal leaves only the team's first-round pick Demar Dotson Jersey , wide receiver Calvin Ridley of Alabama, unsigned before Friday's opening of a two-day rookie minicamp.

Of the team's six draft picks, Senat may have the clearest path to a starting job. There is an opening at defensive tackle after free agent Dontari Poe signed with NFC South rival Carolina.

On Wednesday Tramon Williams Jersey , the team announced agreements with four draft picks: cornerback Isaiah Oliver, running back Ito Smith, wide receiver Russell Gage and linebacker Foye Oluokun.

    • New Cowboys receivers coach Sanjay Lal closely studied Dez Bryant‘s route running on film from 2017 before the team made a decision on the receiver’s future. He saw the same thing Cowboys scouting chief Will McClay did — inconsistency.

“I still saw he’s physical and violent at the route top Justin Hardy Jersey ,” Lal said, via Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News. “He’s still one of the best slant runners in the league.

“Without getting into specifics, I just saw more inconsistencies in his game [than in previous years].”

Lal declined to expound on the inconsistencies he saw.

It echoed what McClay said after the draft in a radio interview Shaq Mason Jersey , pointing out Bryant’s inability “to win one-on-one, to win downfield” as well as the receiver’s “inconsistency.” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who remains close with Bryant Jim Otto Jersey , disagreed earlier this week, saying Bryant still can make a “significant contribution” to a team.

Lal also provided a complimentary assessment of Bryant’s game overall.

“I would always pull Dez Bryant cut-ups, ‘Here’s how you go play violently for a ball; here’s how you turn on a back-shoulder fade Austin Hooper Jersey ,'” Lal said. “I have a whole slant cut-up of Dez Bryant, so I’ve been a great admirer of how he plays the game. I still think he has that.”

Bryant remains without a job after the Cowboys released him a month ago.

The Dallas Cowboys have drafted a tight end with Jason Witten on the verge of retirement after 15 seasons.

The Cowboys took Dalton Schultz of Stanford with the 137th overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL draft Saturday. The compensatory choice was their second of the fourth round. Dallas selected former Kansas defensive end Dorance Armstrong with the 116th pick.

ESPN reported Friday that Witten is planning to retire and join the network's "Monday Night Football" crew as lead analyst. Owner Jerry Jones says Witten was taking the weekend to consider his future and hadn't made a decision.

Witten is the franchise leader in games, catches and yards receiving. He and Tony Gonzalez are the only NFL tight ends with at least 1 Brandon Parker Jersey ,000 catches and 10,000 yards.

Schultz had 22 catches for 212 yards and a career-high three touchdowns as a senior. Armstrong had 10 sacks as a junior at Kansas in 2016.

    • The Texans have begun formulating a plan to replace safety Andre Hal. Houston expected to have one of the top safety tandems in the NFL after signing Tyrann Mathieu to start opposite Hal this season.

But Hal Bob Griese Jersey , who started all 16 games at free safety last season, recently was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He still is being evaluated at MD Anderson Cancer Center to determine his course of treatment.

While he vows to play again, Hal won’t start the season on the field with the Texans.

The Texans will have only five healthy safeties at their minicamp this week, with Mathieu, Justin Reid Jaquiski Tartt Jersey , Kurtis Drummond, Treston Decoud and Ibraheim Campbell getting reps there. Corey Moore continues to rehab an injury that will keep him out until training camp.

Kenny Vaccaro, Tre Boston and Eric Reid — the older brother of Texans’ rookie Justin — remain available on the free agent market.

The Texans also could consider playing cornerback Kareem Jackson (pictured) more at safety, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. Houston has nine cornerbacks on its roster.

Jackson has played safety in practice and in games, with his versatility an asset for defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.

The best-case scenario for the Texans would be for Justin Reid Jordan Poyer Jersey , a third-round pick out of Stanford, to win the starting job in training camp.

Like a certain high-profile politician, Raiders coach Jon Gruden likes to come up with nicknames for people. Unlike said certain high-profile politician, the insults in Gruden’s nicknames are slightly more subtle.

“We鈥檙e calling Martavis the white tiger,鈥?Gruden said Wednesday. 鈥淚 used to go to Busch Gardens in Tampa. We call [receiver Joey] Galloway the white tiger in Tampa. You go to Busch Gardens and they鈥檝e got a white tiger. You go 12 times or 13 times Bryan Anger Jersey , the white tiger was always in his cage. But the white tiger came out today. Bryant came out.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 know if you get that analogy, but sometimes he comes out to play and sometimes he doesn鈥檛. It鈥檚 good to see him because he鈥檚 really special, like the white tiger.”

Gruden can try to sell that as a compliment, but it’s a backhanded slap at a guy who has missed a couple of days of practice this week with migraines. Gruden previously had groused about Bryant missing practice time due to an illness.

That’s the way plenty of football coaches operate. They want their players to be available to practice and play, and they have little sympathy or empathy for players who have injuries or illnesses that keep them from playing. So while it may seem like good-natured barb Josh Sitton Jersey , at its core it’s still a barb.

    • For a while the mantra around the Washington Wizards was: ”Everybody eats.”

With the regular season winding down Albert Wilson Jersey , the slumping Wizards are starving.

Taurean Prince scored 23 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and the Atlanta Hawks rallied to beat the Wizards 103-97 on Friday night.

Washington, which led by six points in the fourth quarter, dropped its fourth straight game and fell into eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

”Nobody wanted to share the basketball tonight. Simple as that. Nobody wanted to share the basketball tonight,” Wizards coach Scott Brooks said. ”When you take bad shots you end up missing. Simple game.”

Washington shot 40.2 percent (35 of 87) from the field compared to 48.1 percent (38 of 79) for Atlanta.

Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 32 points.

Wizards point guard John Wall sat out what was the second of back-to-back games for Washington, and forward Markieff Morris left with 4:11 remaining in the first quarter when he picked up two quick technical fouls.

Six Hawks scored in double figures. Reserve Tyler Dorsey had 22 points Wes Schweitzer Jersey , including 13 in the second half for the Hawks, who had lost two straight.

Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 13 points for the Wizards and Otto Porter Jr. had 10.

”The ball has been sticking,” Porter said of the Wizards’ offense. ”We’ve got to do a better job of moving the ball, looking for the extra pass, looking for the right pass.”

The Wizards trailed by four to start the fourth quarter, but Beal scored seven straight points to put Washington ahead 93-87 with 5:28 left to play.

Atlanta rallied and Mike Muscala’s corner 3 gave the Hawks the lead at the 2:04 mark.

Prince scored four straight points to make it 99-93 as the Wizards went over five minutes without a field goal before Tomas Satoransky’s basket cut the deficit to 99-95 with 43 seconds remaining.

Dewayne Dedmon’s dunk off a pass from Prince pushed the Hawks’ lead back to six.

”They made a little run in the fourth and we just battled back,” Dorsey said. ”And we just made big shots. Timely passes Mike Alstott Jersey , timely shots.and we finished the game strong with big plays.

Beal was 0 for 4 from the field down the stretch.

”When you lose a lead in the fourth quarter and you’re on the road it’s not easy,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said.

      TIP-INS

Hawks: Earned a split of the season series. … Improved to 7-33 on the road. … DeAndre’ Bembry missed a pair of free throws early in the fourth quarter and, as a result, everyone in the arena won free fast food. … The Hawks were just 16 of 23 from the free throw line.

Wizards: C Ian Mahinmi (concussion) did not play and is day-to-day. … Topped 2,000 assists (2,016) for just the second season since 1992. . Oubre hit multiple 3-pointers in a game for the first time since March 23. He went 3 for 7 against the Hawks after going 2 for 35 over the past seven games.

      DORSEY DOING IT

Dorsey is finishing his rookie season strong, averaging 16.8 points over his last five games. ”He’s just grown with his opportunities, doing more and more, making big shots,” Budenholzer said.

      Hawks: At Boston on Sunday.

Wizards: Host Boston on Tuesday night.

The Chiefs signed second-round draft pick Breeland Speaks to his four-year rookie contract Thursday, making him the third of their six draft selections to sign a deal.

Kansas City did not have a first-round pick this year after trading it away last year to move up and select quarterback Patrick Mahomes II. So Lane Taylor Jersey , new general manager Brett Veach waited until the 46th overall pick to grab Speaks, who is expected to bolster the Chiefs' weak pass rush this season.

Speaks played three seasons at Mississippi, where he had 121 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and nine sacks. But the Chiefs hope his production will increase now that he can focus on outside linebacker.

The Chiefs needed help there even before parting with veteran Tamba Hali this offseason.

    • Jalen Ramsey got his hands dirty Tuesday for the first time since the birth of his daughter.

Ramsey reported to Jacksonville Jaguars training camp and jumped right into the mix with the first-team defense Malcom Brown Jersey , taking part in drills, talking trash and breaking up passes.

Sweat, grass, dirt. It might have been the messiest Ramsey’s hands have been since he skipped the start of camp to remain in Tennessee with his girlfriend, Bre, and newborn daughter, Breelyn. That’s because the All-Pro cornerback, whose hands might be as valuable as anyone’s on that side of the ball, made a deal with Bre that he wouldn’t have to change diapers.

”We’ve been best friends since high school so we’ve always kind of talked about how the process would go a little bit,” Ramsey said. ”Of course, everything’s different when it actually happens, but for the most part, we have really good agreement that I won’t necessarily have to change diapers.”

So what is Ramsey’s part of the trade-off?

”She changes the diapers; I feed her,” he said.

Ramsey became a first-time father last Wednesday, the day the Jaguars reported for camp. He missed four practices to spend extra time with his family. Coach Doug Marrone excused his absences.

”It is good when everybody is together, everyone is back in and everyone is in a good place mentally Alex Anzalone Jersey ,” Marrone said. ”Just having that balance in your life, making sure everyone is good at home, making sure everyone is OK, making sure everything is set. Then you can get here and then you can focus and put your mind on what you need to do. It is always good when you can get everyone back in here, and I am glad everything worked out well.”

Marrone had planned to work Ramsey in slowly, but the ultra-competitive, lock-down cornerback refused to stay on the sideline during his first day back. The Jaguars had to like what they saw, even though they’ve seen similar from him for two years now.

Ramsey played in every game in two seasons and emerged as one of the league’s top defenders.

He expects to be even better in Year 3.

”We’re going to see when the season starts, right?” he said. ”We’re going to see. And y’all will see. Y’all will see. I never give myself like goals. I guess you could say like, `Oh, I’m going to have this many interceptions; I’m going to have this many” pass breakups.

”But what I can tell you, though, that I will do is I’ll make sure I prepare myself and I’m ready to go out there and give it my all so I’m not letting anybody down, my teammates, coaches, my family Len Dawson Jersey , y’all, fans. I can tell you that much.”

He gets one of his toughest tests in the team’s season opener at the New York Giants and against three-time Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

”Let’s get this out the way right now: He’s a good receiver. We all know that,” said Ramsey, the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. ”But y’all know me at the same time. Yeah, he’s good. But I’m good, too. If y’all want to say he’s the best at his position; I’m the best at my position, so we’re going to go at it. We’re going to give the people a show the first game of the season.

”He’s going to have some wins; I’m going to have some wins. I just plan on having more wins.”

Ramsey is the outspoken face of Jacksonville’s vaunted defense, a unit that was among the best in the league in 2017. The Jaguars return 10 starters on that side of the ball, including all four in the secondary, and expect to be even more dynamic in their second season together.

”At the end of the day, win games,” he said. ”If we can win games on the defensive side of the ball. We can always ask for more: More turnovers, more touchdowns, more opportunities giving the ball back to the offense. Just more of everything.”

      Except diapers.

”It feels good” to be back, Ramsey said. ”Miss my little girl already, but it feels good. It was cool. It was good. Long few days Wes Schweitzer Jersey , but everything that I could have dreamed of.”

METAIRIE, La. (AP) Veteran receivers Brandon Tate and Michael Floyd joined practice at New Orleans Saints training camp on Wednesday, bolstering a receiver corps thinned by injuries and adding to the mix of players competing in the return game.

New Orleans also has activated veteran tight end Michael Hoomanawanui, who began training camp on the physically unable to perform list.

The 30-year-old Tate played in 13 games for Buffalo last season, when his most significant contributions came in the return game. He returned 28 kickoffs for 548 yards and 20 punts for 193 yards.

”He had a good workout. We’re familiar with the player, just with his experience,” coach Sean Payton said of Tate, who also has played for New England and Cincinnati during his nine-year career. ”We’ll have a chance to take a look at him both in the punt and kick return game, and then also at receiver.”

Payton has described competition for return roles as ”wide open.”

”Our return game is kind of like `The Bachelor’ right now,” Payton said recently, referring to the popular reality TV series. ”We have about 12 contestants all with roses. We don’t know who our returner is going to be. And if she doesn’t like any of them, we will bring in more.

”They have to do anything they can to become the returner. … Limousine, whatever. Paris.”

Payton has been emphasizing kickoff coverage and return games this training camp because of NFL rules changes for such plays affecting how teams can line up – and block- in an effort to reduce injurious, higher-speed collisions.

Payton said the return game is not necessarily causing him more anxiety than usual, but stressed, ”We just want to be better in that area.”

Meanwhile Joshua Garnett Jersey , Payton said he wants to see how a receiver with Floyd’s skill set and 6-foot-3 frame fits New Orleans’ offense, which has thrived in the past with big receiving targets such as the 6-4 Marques Colston, who retired after the 2015 season as the club’s career leader in receiving.

Floyd is ”someone that’s big and we think we’ve got a good vision for what his strengths are,” Payton said.

The 28-year-old Floyd played for Minnesota last season, but caught only 10 passes for 78 yards in 11 games after serving a four-game suspension by the NFL for using a banned substance.

Floyd was among Arizona’s premier receivers earlier in his career, but was released by the club following a 2016 drunken driving arrest. Payton indicated Floyd would not have much room for error off the field.

”Obviously, when we bring players in, they understand the expectations,” Payton said. ”He’s someone that I’m sure understands it.”

The decisions to bring in new receivers this week came in part because three who were on the active roster to open camp are injured.

Travin Dural, a second-year pro out of LSU, is going on injured reserve. Payton says injured undrafted rookies Josh Smith and Eldridge Massington have been waived.

”It’s a hard position group to be in camp with, with a lot of guys not practicing,” Payton said. ”That’s just how it is.”

The Saints also have added veteran offensive guard Don Barclay, who played in three games for Detroit last season and started 24 games with Green Bay over five seasons.
